I have been drinking the yerba mate tea in the bags for the last 15 years and recently tried the loose tea. The flavour is actually better. I’ve tried other yerba mate tea and they don’t come close in taste to the Wild Harvest

Lesley Y.Wild Harvest Tea

Great way to start the day, smoother buzz than coffee. I also like to combine with Red Bush blend for Ginger Honey Iced Tea.

Aisha P.Ginger Peach Yerba Mate

Just ordered the fine cut to try in my French press. I was a little skeptical at first but found the fine cut to be exceptional in both flavor ad ease of steeping.  Will continue to order for my morning tea.

Matelatte

Aviva Yerba Mate roots originate in the Specialty Coffee and Tea industry. When we first started Aviva. Our founder-owned and operated a coffee roasting business. In our coffee business, we had a full coffee bar with professional brewing equipment. Creating a latte utilizing the yerba mate was a natural extension of our coffee house offerings. We were pioneers in this industry. At that time, we had our Matelatte packaged in pods in foil bags. You would remove the foil and place the pod in your portafilter. Hit your brew button, and the result was a unique hot beverage that was both comforting, satisfying and gave you some good clean energy.

The pods were ahead of their time, but for 22 years, we have served our Matelatte offerings to many businesses and individuals that enjoy a most unique and satisfying drink.

Aviva Matelatte comes in three offerings:

  • Wild Harvest Matelatte
  • Bengal Chai Matelatte
  • Shaman Matelatte.

How to brew a Matelatte

  1. Fill the brew basket to ¾ full.
  2. Hold the brew basket under cold water from the tap.
  3. Wet the mate being careful not to displace the leaf.
  4. Place the porta filter or brew basket into the espresso machine.
  5. Place your cup under the porta filter.
  6. Start by depressing your brew button and stop after four seconds. Repeat this step twice. This allows the Matelatte to absorb the water and expand as much as it can. This provides backpressure to the pump and gives a steady infusion of hot water through the yerba mate.
  7. Brew 8 ounces through the porta filter. Normal standard for coffee is one ounce between 21 and 23 seconds, Yerba mate does not have the oils that coffee does. Brewing yerba mate will be quicker and that is why you can fill up to four ounces.
  8. Steam milk of choice.
  9. Add flavor of choice. Our favorite is the Torani sugar free Vanilla.
